Just twenty minutes from Forest Hill, this preserved complex lets you step into the labs where Thomas Edison perfected many of his inventions. Knowledgeable rangers guide you through the massive warehouses filled with original equipment, and it's impressive to see working phonographs and early movie cameras up close. The Glenmont estate is also open for tours, showing off Edison's family home and scenic grounds. The site is clean and well organized with plenty of parking. Weekends can get busy, so going on a weekday morning makes for a relaxed outing and a fascinating look at New Jersey's history.
